Books Completed

I wanted to read 25 books in 2010. It didn't happen for various reasons, but I did read lots of fun stuff and make some dissertation progress so I'm okay with "failing." This year, I've decided not to set a certain number goal, but I am going to continue reading for pleasure as time allows because it is a fabulous stress reliever for me. And, I'm going to keep a list of books that I complete in 2011 here on the blog. Some of these will be first timers, some may be repeat reads, some will be dissertation related, and some will be books that I started (sometimes long ago) but never finished reading (that would drive you crazy, wouldn't it CAR? ;-)).

The blog list allows me to keep my books completed list in a central location that I won't lose (that is, not in one of the many notebooks in which I keep random notes and lists). Plus, I love seeing what other people are reading and/or have read so I thought others might want to see what I'm reading. Probably not, but I'm posting it anyway!

Okay, books completed in 2011 thus far (that I remember!):

1) Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Seach for Everything Across Italy, India, and Indonesia by Elizabeth Gilbert (completed January)

2)Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen (completed January/February?)

3)Cinderella Ate My Daughter: Dispatches from the Front-Lines of the New Girlie-Girl Culture by Peggy Orenstein (completed February)

4)Hannah's Child: A Theologian's Memoir by Stanley Hauerwas (completed March)

5) Dear Vonda Kay by Miss America, 1965, Vonda Kay Van Dyke (completed April?)

6) The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards (completed April/May???)

7) What looks like crazy on an ordinary day by Pearl Cleage (completed May)

Books in progress:

1) Committed: A Love Story by Elizabeth Gilbert

2) Touched by a Vampire: Discovering the Hidden Messages in the Twilight Saga by Beth Felker Jones (BFJ received her Ph.D. from Duke in theology/ethics and now teaches at Wheaton)

3) What was Lost: A Christian Journey through Miscarriage by Elise Erikson Barrett (EEB is a Duke Divinity School graduate and an ordained minister in the Methodist church. Even though I'm not finished with her book yet, I feel confident recommending it. It fills a HUGE need as there are so few Christian resources that deal honestly with the infertility/miscarriage struggle. In fact, EEB's book won Christianity Today's 2011 Award for best book in Christian Living.)

4) The Beauty Bias: The Injustice of Appearance in Life and Law by Deborah L. Rhode

Book that I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit that I still haven't finished:

1) Living History by Hillary Rodham Clinton (I know I've been "reading" this since at least 2007. That's ridiculous. It shall be completed this year!)

SO there's the book list(s) for today. Happy Monday all!

Glad to know I'm not the only one who keeps a list! I'm up to 12 books this year already. Makes me wish I was getting those Pizza Hut coupons from the book club in elementary school!

Meg, I know, right? I could go for a free personal pan pizza or two ;-)
