SO, I've accomplished two more of my professional goals:
4. I proposed a panel for AAR with two other graduate students. The paper I proposed was about GA/Acteens coronation rituals. I felt pretty good about it, but I'm not really a "ritual studies" type person. I tend to do more cultural history type stuff and less theory so I may be out of my league for the American Academy of Religion. We shall see.
5. I also submitted my proposal for the YSBA (Young Scholars in the Baptist Academy) conference. Chad and I both proposed a paper for that one. We tried to make them somewhat interlocking. We both proposed papers about the dangers of prooftexting. He's writing from a biblical studies/theological perspective while I'm considering several historical "case studies." I hope they both get accepted because these would be really fun papers to write. Plus it would be cool if we could publish something together on this down the road. Who knows? I'm just proud that I put myself out there and took the step to apply.
Anyway, I know that you guys were all dying to know about my progress so there you have it. :-)
